Jovenes En Accion

Eight teens arrive from Mexico Monday, July 19 to study substance abuse prevention.  The program is coordinated by WorldMontana and sponsored by U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and World Learning.

The youths are ages 15 to 17 and come from all over Mexico.  They are apart of the organization, Jovenes En Accion, which translates to “Youth In Action”.  The program brings teens to the U.S. to “promote global understanding between the people of the U.S. and Mexico.”  The teens are selected based on their academic standing, project proposal, community service, school attendance, and knowledge of the English language.

They will meet with prevention groups, volunteer at Alive @ 5, attend the Last Chance Stampede Rodeo, and meet with the Iraqi students during their time in Helena.

During their stay, the teens each be working on an individual service project to implement into their communities when they return home.  They will present their projects to their host families and members of the community Friday, July 29.
