Chinese and Education Management

On October 8th, 12 Chinese visitors will land in Kalispell. Their first stop will include visiting the  Flathead Indian reservation.  The group will meet with tribal leaders and visit schools on the reservation.  Visitors will learn how traditional cultural values and skills are incorporated in the curriculum.  The group will also learn how the students who attend schools on the reservation interact with students from majority non-native American schools outside of the reservation

Next they will go to Helena and will meet with a representative from the State Office of Public Instruction to discuss the role the state government plays in education on Native American reservations. The visitors will end the day at Broadwater Elementary School where they will visit an after-school program based on the Montessori model of self-instruction.

On Wednesday morning they will meet with Michelle Lewis at Carroll College then meet with staff of ExplorationWorks! to discuss its innovative programs and partnerships with local schools and Carroll College. Later that afternoon the group will be off and head to Portland to continue learning about education in the US.
