Indonesia Visitors to Present at Sex Trafficking Panel

Indonesian visitors to present at sexual trafficking panel at Carroll

Three women from Indonesia, including the director of a women’s health care service for female prostitutes, will visit Carroll College in late March as part of their tour of five cities in the United States.

They will speak on a panel Monday, March 30 at 7 p.m. at the Sage Room in Carroll’s Corette Library. Bryan Lockerby, Department of Justice administrator for criminal investigation, will offer the keynote. The panel will include the director of a refuge house, Pat Freeland, and a representative from the Helena Police Department.

Trafficking is a serious issue in Montana because of the Bakken economic development and the number of traffickers in that region. Helena sits at a crossroads of activity in Montana.

The Helena community is invited to attend the 7 p.m. presentation in the Sage Auditorium (room 235) of the Carroll College Corette Library. WorldMontana, a nonprofit group that brings international visitors to Montana, is sponsoring the event.

The group is part of the International Visitor Leadership Program and the focus is the Role Of NGOs in Promoting Global Women’s Issues. WorldMontana, now located in the Artaza Center for Excellence in Global Education at Carroll College, will host the delegates March 27-31 for a professional education program on issues such as domestic violence and sexual trafficking. The group will tour the Friendship Center, visit Disability Rights Montana and visit with Lt. Gov. Angela McClean and other political leaders.

Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs Cathy Day will welcome the visitors to Carroll on Monday, March 30 when they will talk about campus assault issues with Kelly Parsley. Kelly, Chair of Carroll College’s Health Sciences Department, currently Chairs the Lewis and Clark County Board of Health and serves on St. Peter’s Hospital Board of Directors.
